Ukrainian man whose son is fighting against Russia is named as Cork crash victim

The man has been named as father of three Oleksandr ‘Sasha’ Vosniuk (43), who lived in the village of Eyeries. One of his sons is still in Ukraine, serving in the military.

Mr Vosniuk died after his car is believed to have hit a ditch and entered a river on the R571 at Eyeries in West Cork.

Mr Vosniuk ran a business in his home country before Russia’s invasion, and moved to Cork with his wife Olena and two of their children two years ago. He has a son who is still in Ukraine, serving in the country’s military in its fight against Russia.

Mr Vosniuk had been working for a tyre shop in Eyeries.

In a post on social media over the weekend, the owner of Beara Tyres, Damien O’ Sullivan, paid a heartfelt tribute to Mr Vosniuk.

“Tragically last Friday, we lost our coworker and friend Alexander (Sasha),” he said.

“He left his home with his wife and family for a better life and they became a part of our community. He was an extremely nice person and would always bring homemade food as…
