Dublin Marathon 2024: Louth grandmother set to become first Irish woman to run 1,000 marathons
Dundalk grandmother Collette O’Hagan deliberately chose her favourite race for historic milestone, having completed her 999th marathon in Galway earlier this month
The 75 year-old grandmother from Bay Estate timed her marathon schedule so that she would compete her 1,000th marathon in Dublin as it’s her favourite course.
She’s not planning on doing anything different on Sunday morning, just having her usual pre-race breakfast of a slice of toast and cup of coffee, but there will be celebrations and cake in her local, The Greenore Railway Saloon, when she returns home that evening.
“I did my 999th in Galway on October 5 so I’m just keeping myself ticking over, doing short runs and 5kms every day to keep myself right and not get any injuries.”
She admits that “not in my wildest dreams” did she think she’d run 1,000 marathons when she ran her first one back in 1990.
