Athlone Town v Shelbourne: Midlanders look to retain Women’s FAI Cup in re-run of 2022 and 2023 finals

FORM:

Given both teams finished the season in first and second place in the Women’s League of Ireland table, form has been scintillating from both sides to close out the season. Athlone Town finished the season with a 3-2 loss to Galway United but managed to wrap up the title with two points to spare. The also managed to defeat Bohemians 2-0, draw 3-3 with Shamrock Rovers, and seal 2-1 and 1-0 wins over Wexford and Sligo Rovers respectively.

It was an agonising end to their title ambitions for Shelbourne who endured a 1-1 draw on the final day of the season with Shamrock Rovers. However, the Drumcondra club managed a 3-0 win over Peamount, defeated Galway United 1-0, and thrashed both Cork City and Sligo Rovers 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.
