‘He was mad as a brush’ - family of Richard Quirke, owner of Dr Quirkey's Good Time Emporium say at his funeral mass

Mr Quirke was the owner of Dr Quirkey’s Good Time Emporium, which he set up on O’Connell Street in Dublin in 1976.

The funeral mass held this morning at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock, was attended by his wife, Ann, his daughter, sons, grandchildren, friends, and extended family.

A former Garda, Richard Quirke hit the jackpot with his slot machine, casino, and jukebox business.

Originally from County Tipperary, Mr Quirke passed away peacefully at his home in Cabinteely, Dublin 18, last weekend.

Both of Mr Quirke’s sons have become well-known figures in public life. Wesley Quirke is married to former Miss World Rosanna Davison, while Andy is the creator and star of the TV show Damo and Ivor.

Andy delivered a eulogy for his father this morning, describing him as “mad as a brush and cute as a fox”.

“He came from nothing, worked extremely hard, and was one of the most generous people you could ever meet,” he said.
