€1.4m spend on security shelter ‘deeply frustrating’, says Minister O’Gorman

Yesterday during the Oireachtas Finance committee, it was revealed that the security shed cost over €1.4 million.

The project was the responsibility of the Office of Public Works (OPW), which was also responsible for the building of the Leinster House bike shelter that cost €336,000.

The Tánaiste Micheál Martin described the spend as “ridiculous” and called for a review into the cost.

Speaking on the way into a Cabinet meeting this afternoon, Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman said the Government does have regard for taxpayers’ money.

“I’m in the middle of my Budget negotiations with Minister Donohoe at the moment and we know that every cent has to be fought over so it is deeply deeply frustrating for me as a minister and indeed for many other minsters who are looking to get greater investment into key public services into key public infrastructure, when we see situations where it looks like public money hasn’t been well spent,” Minister O’Gorman said.
