Man allegedly caught ‘red-handed’ near Mountjoy jail with drone equipped to deliver €8,000 worth of drugs
Gardaí said the drone’s air drop system was designed to lower a flaming package to burn through the prison’s security netting and get into the yard.
Dean Quinn (26) was 200m away from Mountjoy when he was arrested with cannabis, sedative pills, a drone and equipment in a backpack, Dublin District Court was told.
Judge Gerard Jones granted him bail at €1,500 and adjourned the case for DPP directions. Under conditions, Mr Quinn must not come within 2km of Mountjoy prison.
The accused, of no fixed address, is charged with possession of alprazolam and cannabis with intent to sell or supply on September 9.
The prosecuting garda said the accused made no reply when charged after caution at Mountjoy station.
Objecting to bail, he said the accused was stopped at Glengarriff Parade, 200m from the prison.
