‘Attacks on Gardaí are completely unacceptable’ – how body worn cameras will help members in the line of duty
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee launched the latest phased roll-out of the cameras in Waterford
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee alongside Garda Commissioner Drew Harris today launched the body worn cameras proof of concept at Waterford Garda Station. Waterford is the third location to trial Garda Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) before a national rollout. The first trial commenced in Dublin in early June, and the second in Limerick in August.
The cameras launched today are Motorola Solutions V500 cameras. This is the first time this new camera has been deployed in Europe.
This brings the number of stations using body worn cameras to five, and brings the total number of body worn cameras available for use nationally to 600, across the proof of concept stations – Limerick (200); Kevin Street (50); Pearse Street (50); Store Street (100) and a further 200 in Waterford.
Nationally, to date there are in excess of 600 Gardaí fully trained in their use, with almost 150 Gardaí fully trained…
