Mother, daughter with disability and carer survive explosion: ‘It blew the radiators off the walls’
It’s understood a woman in her 40s and young girl have been taken to hospital as a precaution following the “almighty bang” which happened on Dakota Avenue just before 3pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Neighbours have described the terrifying aftermath and praised a young female carer who got both occupants out of the property and escorted them to safety before emergency services arrived.
“I was in the kitchen cooking when I heard it – I didn’t know it was an explosion,” one local resident recalled.
“I came out and saw my neighbour’s windows in the front garden before being told to stay back because it was gas.”
However, neighbours defied the warning as they could hear the occupants still inside the property and sought to help them get out.
“Everyone came out to help, I kept shouting through the window, ‘Is everyone OK in there’?” one recounted.
“She [the mother] came out covered in blood and the carer carried the wee girl out and set her over on the grass…
