Ellen Keane is confident she can swim faster after she eased into tonight’s SB8 100m final with a composed swim.

The reigning Paralympic champion in the event posted the joint second fastest time (1:24.59) over the two heats, tying with Great Britain’s Brock Whiston in her heat.

Spain’s Anastasiya Dmytriv Dmytriv went quickest in the first heat with 1:22.91 ahead of tonight’s final at 7:21pm (Irish time). Keane swam a PB of 1:19.93 when winning in Tokyo three years ago while Brock, who has been reclassified into this grade, holds the world record at 1:13.83.

“I am just delighted, it was so exciting to get out there,” Keane said.

“Even seeing the girls race yesterday, I am sharing with Nicole Turner, seeing her get excited, I was delighted I wasn’t racing yesterday, but it really put me in the mood today.
