Two men were rushed to hospital following the collision on the R488 at Leighlinbridge in Co Carlow

Gardaí are urging witnesses to come forward

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a serious two vehicle crash in Carlow yesterday saw two men hospitalised with one airlifted to a Dublin hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly before 10am on Thursday August 29, 2024, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a serious collision between a car and a tractor on the R488 at Rathvinden, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow near to the Arboretum. The road is known locally as the the old Carlow-Kilkenny road.

The tractor driver, a man in his 60s, was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital with serious injuries. The car’s driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny for assessment.

The Irish Independent understands the driver of the tractor was a farmer who lives locally.
