Campaigner whose brother died after taking synthetic party drug set to run for Sinn Féin in election
Nicole Ryan (31) has been honoured with multiple awards for her determined campaign to highlight the dangers posed by drugs to young people.
She lost her brother, Alex, in a drugs tragedy in Cork in 2016.
His death – and the fact several others became violently ill after taking the synthetic party drug ‘N Bomb’ – made headlines across Ireland and Europe.
Nicole has devoted herself over the past eight years to highlighting the dangers of drugs and has visited dozens of schools across Ireland as part of her education message.
She has now been selected by Sinn Féin to contest the General Election for the party in Cork North West.
Alex Ryan of Liscahane, Millstreet, Co Cork died on January 23, 2016 after consuming a synthetic drug of the 2C family called 251 NBOMe, with a street name of ‘N Bomb’, at a house party in the city.
