‘We’re preparing for the worst’ – Fears for future of 400 jobs at Cardinal Health in Offaly
Siptu representatives have been called on behalf of around 280 of their members who work at the medical device manufacturer’s plant in Sragh Industrial Estate, Tullamore.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Tony McCormack said he has received representations from concerned workers saying they are worried for their jobs. Employees were notified between 3pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday via email, that they should finish their shift early. Wednesday’s night shift was cancelled so everyone could attend a meeting this morning, at 10am.
“A lot of people went home last night, and were probably worried all night about this meeting at 10 o’clock,” said Cllr McCormack.
“We’re all here hoping for the best but preparing for the worst because it would indicate from what happened, and from my previous experience with companies, that there are at best job losses, and a worst case scenario of a planned shutdown.”
