More than 60,000 students to receive Leaving Certificate results
More than 60,000 students will receive their Leaving Certificate results later, in what will be the last year of grade inflation linked to the pandemic disruption to education.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) will make Leaving Cert results available from 10am to students.
This year’s Leaving Cert students will benefit from the adjusted examinations and a post-marking adjustment (PMA), which keeps average results in line with the last several years.
With the application of the PMA this year, 68 per cent of all grades increased following the marking process compared with just over 71 per cent in 2023 and 50 per cent in 2022.
The range of adjustment was from 12.1 per cent added to those at the bottom of the scale to 4.8 per cent added at the top.
However, the results next year will be lower on aggregate as part of the Department of Education’s plan to make a gradual return to normal results.
