Hurricane Ernesto: Warning of heavy and thundery rainfall as Ireland braces itself for post-tropical storm

It will be wet and windy today as rain in the west becomes widespread this morning, accompanied by strengthening winds strong and gusty at times.

There is the potential for some heavy or thundery falls and some coastal flooding especially in parts of the south and east.

It will be drier and brighter from the southwest through the afternoon and evening as winds becoming cyclonic variable for a time.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees today, dropping to 8 degrees during a wet night with heavy and thundery falls.

Tomorrow will be a breezy day with spells of sunshine and scattered showers.

Some of the showers may be heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms but they will become more isolated later and mostly confined to Atlantic coastal areas.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees during the day, dropping to 9 to 13 degrees during a wet night.

Hurricane Ernesto, which ripped through the Carribean over the weekend at 136kph, will lead to wet and windy conditions from Wednesday.
