Over half of homeless people were working in 2022 according to CSO

Fifty-nine per cent of those who described themselves as homeless in Census 2022 were working.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released data which was taken over two years ago.

The figures released show 68 per cent of homeless men were working, while for women it was 48 per cent.

It also shows that 4 per cent of those who reported being homeless had a third level education, while 11 per cent said they had completed at least a Junior Cert at secondary school.

Two per cent said while being homeless they were also students.

Of those who replied to the Census saying they were homeless, around 80 per cent said their health was either good or very good.

While 5 per cent said they had very bad or bad health.

Just over 10,000 people reported being homeless in the Census. However, in the two years since those registered as homeless and living in emergency accommodation has grown to more than 13,800 – and includes more than 4,000 children.
