Dublin recycling facility forced to close due to safety breaches by ‘organised groups’

The new facility, opposite Ikea in Ballymun, only opened last year, but was forced to close yesterday as Dublin City Council looks to resolve ongoing issues at the site.

A statement blamed the closure on “the continued and serious breaching of site rules by organised groups of individuals, causing health and safety risks to themselves, staff members, and patrons of the recycling centre”.

Dublin City Council today announced it would be closing the recycling centre with immediate effect and it would remain closed until “further notice”.

The council said it is working to resolve the situation as soon as possible, though it is likely that the centre will remain closed for “several weeks”.

A local councillor received an email from the council stating that members are currently reviewing security protocols and that it is likely the centre will be closed until at least August 26.
