Dublin hoteliers complete purchase of Wicklow and Ireland’s oldest hotel

Purchased by Esther and Billy O’Brien in the early 1990s, the family’s years of service have seen them expand and develop the Woodenbridge Hotel’s offering, transforming it from a 12-bedroom hotel in desperate need of a facelift into a 69-bed hotel with a reputation as one of Ireland’s premier locations.

Set in the Vale of Avoca and dating back to 1608, the hotel has welcomed guests from near and far during the O’Brien’s tenure, offering a setting for family occasions and community functions, and a base to explore the Wicklow landscape, play a few rounds at Woodenbridge Golf Club or enjoy award-winning food and local entertainment.

The hotel’s staff’s welcoming nature hasn’t gone unnoticed over the years, with a raft of awards coming their way, including being crowned ‘Ireland’s Favourite Place to Stay’ in Leinster at the Virgin Media Business Gold Medal Awards this February.
