Kick off Heritage Week 2024 at the Collins Barracks with a special talk, handling session and tours.

• Friday, 16th August – Curator’s Talk
– 2-2:30pm Ib Jorgensen: A Fashion Retrospective
Curator Alex Ward will discuss the life and work of iconic Danish-born Irish designer Ib Jorgensen in this in-gallery talk.

• Saturday 17th August – Drop-in Handling Session
– 1-3pm Hands-on History: Come Back to Erin
Join Museum educators for an interactive handling session with objects from the Museum’s handling collection that explore the history of travel and holiday-making in Ireland.

• Saturday 17th August – Guided Tours
– 1pm The Way We Wore: Representations of Social Change and Connections Through Clothing
– 2pm The Way We Wore: Representations of Social Change and Connections Through Clothing
These tours will explore the changing roles of women in Ireland as reflected by the history of their clothing and costume.

• Sunday, 18th August – Guided Tours
– 2pm Not Just Shamrocks: Irish Symbolism in the Museum’s Collections
– 3pm From Barracks to Museum: An Introduction to Collins Barracks
Discover the history of Irish symbolism through objects in the Museum, and then discover the history of the Museum itself!

Take a journey through the Museum to learn about fascinating objects and all the different ways we can understand our national heritage.

No booking is required. However, places on the talk and tours are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
