The former boss of Australian carrier Qantas – Dublin native Alan Joyce – has seen his pay for 2023 slashed by A$9.2m (€5.5m) following a debacle that saw the airline selling seats for flights it had already cancelled.

“The events that damaged Qantas and its reputation and caused considerable harm to relationships with customers, employees and other stakeholders were due to a number of factors,” noted the company in a statement to investors.
