Leona Maguire gets second round underway, Kate O'Connor in Heptathlon

Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow get their second round underway in the women’s golf in the Olympics.

Both of their medal chances look unlikely, as they are both six over par entering round two.

Five bogeys on the front nine left Meadow struggling from the off, and two more on the first three holes of the journey home left her at the bottom of the field.

Kate O’Connor competes in the Heptathlon.

The 23-year-old tackles the 100-metre hurdles, the high jump, the shot put and the 200 metres.

O’Connor clocked 14.08 seconds in the 100m hurdles, finishing seventh of seven in her heat, that time yields her 967 points.

Adrianna Sułek-Schubert finished first on O’Connor’s race in 13.32.

Outside of the Irish action, the men’s 200 metres final is the main event on track tonight, with Noah Lyles of the United States bidding to follow up on his win in the 100 metres.
