Daniel Wiffen claims bronze medal in 1500m final

Daniel Wiffen missed out on his second goal medal, but did claim bronze, and his second medal of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Wiffen was heavily tipped to win gold in the 1500-metre freestyle, but it was American Bobby Finke who lead from start to finish and smashed the world record.

The Armagh man adds the 1500-metre freestyle bronze to the 800-metre gold he won earlier in the week.

It is Ireland’s sixth medal of the games so far, with Kellie Harrington aiming to upgrade her guaranteed silver to gold on Tuesday.

It is now Ireland’s most successful Games ever.
