Humble beginnings. Durrow, a small, slightly sloping, ground in south Laois, hosted the first All-Ireland ladies senior football final 50 years ago.

Tipperary’s Kitty Ryan holds the distinction of being the inaugural winning captain, her side edging a close contest with Offaly 2-3 to 2-2. According to reports, the attendance at the final on October 13, 1974, was around 500 but that may have been an exaggeration.
