‘Sleep tight our beautiful son’- Parents of Kilkenny e-scooter tragedy say goodbye to their ‘blue eyed boy’

Joe Carthy tragically passed away following a collision between his e-scooter and a car in Co Kilkenny on Saturday July 27

Mourners at his funeral mass today were told of how Joe had “touched the hearts of Kilkenny” and that his family’s “hearts had been shattered” and their lives would never be the same again without their “fun, caring and joyful boy”.

Michael Joseph (Joe) Carthy tragically died following a collision between his e-scooter and a car in Co Kilkenny on Saturday July 27.

The 14-year-old had been fishing with his brother on the canal in Kilkenny city earlier in the day and was heading home on an e-scooter to the townland of Bonnettstown on the Tullaroan Road when he was hit by a car shortly before 6.30pm.

Joe was treated at the scene of the crash before being transferred by ambulance to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny where he later died from his injuries.
