A Sean Boyd goal after 15 minutes put the Premier Division league leaders ahead away to Bray on Sunday and the Reds looked on course to advance with ease, but they backed off as the game went on and were fortunate not to concede a late equaliser, with Duff claiming that if there had been extra time his side would have been punished.

It was the Reds second game in four days, after a 1-1 draw against St Joseph’s in Gibraltar secured progress to the second qualifying round of the European Conference League, but Duff said there were no excuses for the poor effort in Bray.

“In any league if you can’t do two games in four days, we will sign your P45 and you can go home. Ridiculous. It comes down to application, this game was going to be as easy or as hard as they wanted it to be, and they made it a very difficult game, we could have conceded in the last minute and then there would have been absolutely only one winner,” Duff said.
