‘An absolute tragedy’ – Teenager killed after crash between e-scooter and bus in Waterford city
Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal road traffic collision which happened at approximately 1:10am on the R680 Cork Road in Waterford city.
Two young men had been travelling on the e-scooter.
One of the young men, a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other young man, another teenager, was rushed to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the bus was uninjured. There were no passengers on the bus at the time.
The Cork Road is currently closed from the South East Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted.
Local diversions are in place.
Newly elected Metropolitan Mayor of Waterford, Cllr Joe Kelly, has called for greater regulations around e-scooters and said the Government needs to “get a grip” on the situation, following the early-morning tragedy.
