National Concert Hall, Friday 16th August
The Norwegian superstar Mari Samuelsen, an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, directs the RTÉ Concert Orchestra from the violin for an evening of evocative storytelling for strings.
Inspirational and groundbreaking, Samuelsen is a sensational performer. She brings her creativity and breathtaking virtuosity to a programme including Max Richter’s 2012 reimagining of The Four Seasons. Richter aimed to reclaim the Vivaldi piece and make people fall in love with it again, and the incredible impact of Recomposed is a testament to his success. Samuelsen and Richter are regular collaborators – they actually joined the RTÉ CO to play to a packed marquee at last year’s All Together Now festival – and the evening also features She Remembers from Richter’s haunting soundtrack to The Leftovers.
The kaleidoscopic programme encompasses both the more familiar, Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, and a piece never before performed live, Olivia Belli’s Sapias. Another soundtrack features with Cambridge, 1963 from Jóhann Jóhannsson’s score to The Theory of Everything. Samuelsen and the RTÉ CO also perform two striking pieces more associated with the piano, Nils Frahm’s Hammers and Hania Rani’s Glass.
Mari Samuelsen is a trailblazer, a phenomenon with both traditional and newer audiences. Join her and the RTÉ CO as they create a mesmerising soundscape and bring the audience on a compelling musical journey.
Max Richter will not be performing at this concert.
