A 22-year-old man who pleaded guilty to murder is a convicted thief and petty criminal who had amassed 32 convictions prior to the brutal killing.

Owen Maughan, of Dun Saithne Avenue, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, stabbed and bludgeoned neighbour Christy Hall (65) to death at his home in Dun Saithne Green, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin between November 23 and 24, 2021.
