A trip to Dalkey, making friends with firefighters and traditional music – Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler’s week in Dublin

It was quite the start of the trip for ‘The Fonz’ to Ireland, who had only arrived in the city the night before, after a three and a half hour flight delay from London.

“When I heard the fire alarm, I thought it was the clock radio,” the actor said.

A call down to reception and a chat with a “very calm” member of staff (though his reenactment would suggest something a little less than calm) told him the noise wasn’t in fact the fault of the previous guest, thought to have set the alarm clock.

That was just the beginning of a busy trip for the actor who shook hands with and praised the Dublin Fire brigade for their response to the emergency in the Dublin hotel.

“Firemen are some of my favourite human beings. Firemen and firewomen. They run in when the other people are running out,” Winkler said.

A quick selfie with his favourite people and Winkler went to enjoy the rest of his first day here.
