Kerstin Mey to resign from her role as president of University of Limerick

University of Limerick (UL) president Professor Kertsin Mey is to resign from her role leading the college.
However, she will remain employed by the university, taking up a professorship role from September.
Her role was drawn into question after senior officials and professors at the college expressed no confidence in her earlier this year in the wake of a controversial housing deal.
A Sunday Independent investigation had revealed how UL spent €11.44m on 20 homes in Rhebogue last year. A higher than anticipated stamp duty bill brought the total cost to €12.56m.
A subsequent review found the homes are worth about half this amount.
The homes are in use as student accommodation, despite not having planning permission to house students.
UL chancellor Brigid Laffan confirmed today that Prof Mey was stepping down.
