Laois man and president of the IFA, Francie Gorman, found out “by chance” that he had a tumour in his pancreas – a discovery that may have saved his life.
Mr Gorman was attending his GP for other health checks when his doctor discovered the pancreatic tumour.
“The doctors found a tumour on my pancreas completely by chance,” Mr Gorman told The Irish Independent. “I was actually in the doctors because I had low haemoglobin but they ended up finding this tumour.”
In February, the Ballinakill farmer underwent surgery in St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin to have the tumour removed.
“During the surgery, they took more than half of my pancreas but they managed to leave my spleen,” said Mr Gorman. “All the staff in the hospital looked after me so well. I couldn’t say enough about them.”
