‘He was raised on a farm, had a big interest in farming’ – Teen killed, another hospitalised after Co Leitrim tractor crash
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the fatal single-vehicle crash on R204 at Aghavilla, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim, which occurred at approximately 3.10pm.
“A male passenger of the tractor, aged in his late teens, was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The male driver of the tractor, aged in his late teens, was conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time,” a garda spokesperson said.
It is believed the collision occurred close to the young man’s home near Carrigallen.
A second teenager who was driving the tractor was injured and taken to Cavan General Hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The deceased was a young farmer who was studying for his QQI-accredited Green Cert for agriculture.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor Paddy O’Rourke said the news of the collision came as a shock to the community as the young man who lost his life was particularly well known in the area.
