Irish Defence Forces pay tribute to ‘colleague and friend’ Corporal Martin ‘Lebbie’ O’Brien after his death aged 41
Corporal Martin “Lebbie” O’Brien
The Irish Defence Forces has paid tribute to Corporal Martin “Lebbie” O’Brien, who has died aged 41.
He served 23 years in the Defence Forces and completed seven overseas trips, travelling to Lebanon with UNIFIL, Kosovo with KFOR and Liberia with UNMIL.
Cpl O’Brien, who is from Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, enlisted in the Irish Defence Forces on August 16, 2001, and was a member of the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 1 Brigade.
In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that Óglaigh na hÉireann can confirm that the death has occurred of Corporal Martin “Lebbie” O’Brien, of 3rd Infantry Battalion, 1 Brigade.”
