The recent spell of fine weather will give way to cloudy days and cooler temperatures, as Met Éireann forecasts rain today and into next week.

Today will start off dry in most places with sunny spells, but scattered showers in the west will spread eastwards during the morning and afternoon, with a chance of hail and thunder.

There will be more prolonged showers in the west in the evening, as highest temperatures range from 9 to 13 degrees.

Tonight will see a mix of cloud and clear spells with scattered showers. Some showers will be be prolonged and bring hail early in the night, and become confined to areas on the west coast later. Lowest temperatures will be between 2 and 6 degrees.
