Man (30s) due in court after army bomb squad called to Wexford housing estate over ‘suspect device’

A man aged in his 30s is due in court this evening following the discovery of a suspect device in Wexford.
The man has been charged and will appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court at 6pm this evening.
He was arrested and detained at Wexford Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, after the army bomb squad were called to a Wexford housing estate on Friday night.
From around 7pm, residents of Wolfe Tone Villas in Wexford town were shocked by the presence of armed soldiers patrolling the estate and assisting gardaí with sealing off the area around a particular property.
It’s believed that neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution, and residents looked on as soldiers cordoned off part of the estate in an operation that lasted over three hours as the bomb unit made the scene safe.
