‘One of Dublin’s great sons’ – Eamon Farrell, father of Colin Farrell, remembered for ‘incredible’ generosity at funeral
Mr Farrell, who was in his 80s, died in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin on Wednesday surrounded by his family.
The former Shamrock Rovers footballer, who died following a long illness, is survived by his wife Eileen, his children Eamon, Catherine, Claudine and Colin and their mother Rita.

Following his time as a professional footballer he ran a number of businesses in Dublin, including restaurants and the Health Matters chain of health food shops.
His funeral mass was held on Saturday at the Church of Our Lady of Victories on Dublin’s Ballymun Road. The mass was followed by a cremation at Glasnevin Crematorium.
A rendition of You Raise Me Up was performed as Mr Farrell’s remains were brought into the church.
