The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit at Wolfe Tone Villas in Wexford on Friday night.

A man aged in his 30s is currently being detained at Wexford Garda Station after the army bomb squad were called to a Wexford housing estate on Friday night.

From around 7 p.m., residents of Wolfe Tone Villas in Wexford town were shocked by the presence of armed soldiers patrolling the estate and assisting gardaí with sealing off the area around a particular property.

It’s believed that neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution, and residents looked on as soldiers cordoned off part of the estate in an operation that lasted over three hours as the bomb unit made the scene safe.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that “gardaí were alerted following the discovery of a suspect device at a residence in Wexford town at approximately 7pm yesterday, Friday 11th April 2025.

“A cordon was established and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.
