‘A really traumatic experience but I did find the strength’ – woman speaks out after three men jailed for rape

Woman says giving evidence against three men in rape case has helped protect other women

Anthony Hickey (39), Fabio Vicente (42) and Matin Zolfaghari (34) were convicted of the rape and sexual assault of the young woman following a trial at the Central Criminal Court earlier this year, after pleading not guilty to offences which took place on August 31, 2019.

Imposing sentences of 15 and 13 years for the three men, Mr Justice Paul Burns said the three men took advantage of the woman in a “cruel, cynical and depraved manner”.

Speaking to RTÉ News the woman, who wanted to be known as ‘Kate’, said she was out with friends on August 30, 2019 when they met the three men at a Dublin nightclub, where they had a “very basic conversation”.

After her housemate left, Kate said her memory became hazy. CCTV footage of her time in the nightclub was shown in court, showing the three men accompanying her as she left the nightclub.

She was then brought into the back of a car with no seats…
