‘It’s a health issue, not an economic issue’ – Trump tariffs should not delay alcohol labelling plans, campaigners say

Professor Frank Murray, the chair of Alcohol Action Ireland, said he does not believe the issue of health warnings on alcohol needs to be “examined again”.
The consultant in hepatology added that it is a “health issue” and not an “economic issue” and there is “no excuse in delaying” the enforcement of the alcohol warning labels.
It comes as Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said the issue of the health warning labels “will be examined” due to the rollout of the US 20pc tariff on Irish goods announced by US president Donald Trump.
“I do believe that will be examined. One of the pieces of work we need to do is reassess where we are with the competitiveness of our economy overall,” Mr Donohoe told RTÉ Radio One’s This Week.
“We need to assess, if in any way, is Government doing anything that will make it harder for those amazing companies in our food and beverage sector to continue to be successful in the future.”
