Three women die in separate crashes in Cork and Waterford on Mother’s Day
Two women died and two children were injured after a horrific two-vehicle crash in Cork.
Both of the fatal victims had been driving the vehicles involved in the head-on collision which occurred shortly before 4pm outside Mallow.
One driver is understood to be in her 60s and from north Cork while the other was in her 40s and also from Cork. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
The younger woman was accompanied by two children, aged eight and 10 years old. It’s understood they were returning from a Mother’s Day outing.
The children were rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.
One youngster is understood to have suffered serious leg fractures. However, neither child is said to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
Weather conditions were clear with good visibility at the time.
The collision occurred at a wide section of the N72 to the west of Cork Racecourse and near a side road junction.
