The half marathon, which sold out in just two hours earlier this year, took runners from O’Connell Street through the northside of the capital, giving views of Croke Park and Dublin Bay as the sun shone down on Dublin amid clear blue skies.

Bohermeen AC athlete Nichola Sheridan (28) was the fastest woman, crossing the line with a time of 1:18:00. She was followed by Sportsworld AC’s Noreen Brouder in 1:21:42 and Trim AC’s Edel Gaffney in 01:23:31.

Ms Sheridan, who is a primary school teacher from Co Meath, attended her sister’s hen party last night, but yet still achieved “the biggest win” of her career today.
