RTÉ’s Director General is being asked to explain spending of over €250,000 on clothes for staff.
The broadcaster has spent €58,000 in Louis Copeland and €71,000 in Brown Thomas since 2021.
Other items bought included €908 to hire of two dresses for the Rose of Tralee and €119 on cowboy boots.
Speaking on Newstalk, Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy said Kevin Bakhurst has questions to answer over how taxpayers’ money is being spent.
“With anything that’s being purchased by an organisation that’s being funded by the taxpayer, there has to be value for money and I don’t believe there’s been value for money has been given to the taxpayer in this case,” he said.
“The book stops with the director general. He gave commitments to a new era that was published last year. Commitments were given by government to give taxpayers money on the basis that we were entering a new era of the organisation but it doesn’t seem to be the case that we are.”
