Top jockey Frankie Dettori files for bankruptcy
Frankie Dettori
Racing legend Frankie Dettori has filed for bankruptcy, he said in a shock statement this afternoon.
The jockey (54) said he had failed in efforts to resolve a dispute with the British taxman, HMRC.
“For the last six months, my advisors have been working with HMRC in an attempt to find a solution to my financial situation. Regretfully, I will be filing for bankruptcy,” Mr Dettori said.
“I am saddened and embarrassed by this outcome and would advise others to take a stronger rein over their financial matters.
“Bankruptcy is a major decision and its consequences will affect me for many years.”
In December after several media outlets challenged a court ruling granting him anonymity, the Italian rider was revealed as the person behind the dispute with HMRC.
Dettori has been involved in a legal dispute with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which denied him some deductions for income tax.
