Threat of strikes by thousands of care workers reduces as pay rises on table
Talks between union and government officials ended at the Workplace Relations Commission last night.
It is understood that the proposals include a 9.5pc pay rise over two years and a commitment to reflect future public sector pay deals in the workers’ pay.
The first 2.25pc pay rise will be backdated to October 1, 2024.
The staff work in so-called “section 39” organisations, which receive state funding.
They are not directly-employed by the HSE but want their wages to be directly linked to public servants’ pay. This would mean they get pay rises when public servants receive them.

In a message to members following the talks, Siptu said a set of proposals are on the table to progress the section 39 pay dispute.
“Not all issues are resolved, but this is a step forward in securing fair pay and recognition of section 39 workers,” it said.
