The incident has shocked the entire community, in particular those involved in the sport of running as Anila was a committed member of the Born to Run club in Tralee.

Sympathy was extended to Anila’s husband and their two sons on such a tragic loss as Anila’s family and many friends struggle to come to terms with what happened.

Anila is an Albanian national who came to Ireland to build a new life some years ago. Rose Brosnan of Born to Run said she remembers the first night Anila came to the club and how she was quiet and shy.

“But she soon was well known to all due to her genuine warmth and care for others she was an amazing person to have in our little club,” Rose said.

“She always had a smile and was such a loving, caring person. She loved running and achieved many goals she had set for herself by running most Saturday’s at parkrun events,” she said.

Rose spoke of how Anila will always be associated with her great friends who were seldom on the road without each other…
