Irish poet and broadcaster Pat Ingoldsby, who presented a series of children’s shows on RTÉ throughout the 1980s, has died aged 82.

Mr Ingoldsby, who was born in Co Dublin, was a published playwright and poet, with a collection of his columns in the Evening Press collated in The Peculiar Sensation of Being Irish, which was published in 1995.

A documentary film, The Peculiar Sensation of Being Pat Ingoldsby, directed by Seamus Murphy, which painted a portrait of the man, was released in 2022.

He presented a series of popular children’s entertainment programmes on RTÉ during the 1980s, including Pat’s Pals, Pat’s Hat and Pat’s Chat.

He began selling his books on the streets of Dublin in the 1990s and founded his own publishing house, after stepping back from the media.
