Stella Nnadi (82) was rushed to hospital two days after Gardaí attended an incident at her home in Carrigaline and is believed to have suffered a haemorrhage after a suspected head trauma.

Gardaí are investigating the precise circumstances in which Ms Nnadi died.

A man in his 30s – who was known to Ms Nnadi – was arrested by Gardaí on Tuesday and was being questioned at a Cork garda station. He has now been charged and will appear in court in Cork on Thursday morning.

A full post mortem examination was conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH) on Wednesday afternoon by State Pathologist Dr Heidi Okkers.

Gardaí stressed that the results of the post mortem examination would determine the nature of their investigation.

The post mortem examination findings are not being released for operational reasons.
