Cork pensioner (82) who died two days after suspected incident in her home is named locally

The pensioner who died was named locally as Stella Nnadi (82) who was originally from Nigeria but had been living in Ireland for over a decade.

It is understood she was living in a Carrigaline estate in south Cork with her daughter.

The pensioner – who would have marked her 83rd birthday next month – was admitted to Cork University Hospital (CUH) on Tuesday morning complaining of severe head pain but died later that afternoon.

One line of inquiry is that she may have suffered a haemorrhage following a fall.

A man in his 30s is being questioned by Gardaí about the precise circumstances in which the suspected fall took place.

The man was known to the deceased woman.

Investigation

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted at CUH on Wednesday by State Pathologist Dr Heidi Okkers.

The nature of the investigation will be determined by the findings of the post-mortem examination.
