Pedestrian (70s) killed in Laois crash is named locally – ‘He was always great for a chat’

A pedestrian who was tragically killed in a crash near Stradbally in Co Laois last night has been named locally as Patrick (Paddy) Mulhall.
Paddy, who was aged in his 70s, sadly died shortly after he was struck by a car at around 10.45pm on Sunday night on the N80 at Crannagh near Stradbally in Co Laois.
The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 30s, was not injured.
Mr Mulhall, who was from Crannagh, used to work for Telfords, a hardware and DIY store in Portlaoise.
A popular and well-respected man in the local area, Mr Mulhall has been remembered as “everyone’s friend” and one of “Stradbally’s favourite souls”.
“The news of Paddy’s passing is a terrible heartbreak and shock,” said local Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan. “It’s devastating news. It’s the passing of one of Stradbally’s favourite souls.
