Family of girls with additional needs consider legal action after refusals from 17 different schools

The Lowry family have now faced difficulty securing school places for both their children with additional needs

Aaron and Rachel Lowry, parents to Lucy (5) and Amelia (10), from Finglas, previously encountered issues finding a school place for their daughter Amelia, before they secured a place in an Autism Class at St Brigid’s in Finglas.

The family have had applications for Lucy for special classes at 17 schools refused so far, with eight more being processed and two more applications yet to be submitted.

Mr Lowry said, “This isn’t just a personal battle for our family – it’s a battle to ensure all children get access to a basic right: the right to education”.

The family from Finglas are currently struggling to find an alternative school place for Lucy, who is due to start school in September.

Mr Lowry said, “There are three schools and five autism classes within 300 metres of home but we can’t get our daughter into any of them.
