Major review of Arts Council ordered after €7m spend on abandoned IT project
Arts minister Patrick O’Donovan has said he has “deep concern” about the governance failures that saw the state agency spend almost €7 million on a now-abandoned IT project.
On Wednesday morning, Mr O’Donovan brought the long delayed 2023 annual report and accounts of the Arts Council to cabinet. The report details how an “unsuccessful” IT system cost €6.675m. The system, which was developed to help process funding applications and grants, saw €5.3 million written off by the Comptroller and Auditor general.
Mr O’Donovan said he learned the details of the project when he took up office in the Department two weeks ago, and met with the Arts Council last week to convey his “deep concern regarding all aspects of the project.”
